Importance of Vocal Exercise!

I thought I would go through something that not a lot of people think about, which is vocal exercise. Today I am just going to be covering one exercise that will help loosen your throat and relax your tongue so that you will be able to enunciate better.

The exercise we will be going over is called the under chin message which seems kinda simple, but if not done well it will be somewhat useless to do.

The first step will be placement. You want to take your thumb and place it at the tip of your chin and then you will slide your thumb toward your neck until you reach the soft area just under your chin.

The second step will be to move your thumb in a clockwise rotation. This will help to improve blood flow and relax the muscles of your jaw and mouth. Do this for about thirty seconds and then move into step three.

Step three is somewhat simple, after your first thirty seconds of clockwise you will want to rotate your thumb counter clockwise for another thirty seconds. I know it seems kinda monotonous, but this will truly help in the long run.

The fourth step will require you to tilt your head back to elongate your throat and stretch out all the muscles in your throat. When tilting your head back you will want to again rotate your thumb clockwise for thirty seconds and then counterclockwise for another thirty seconds.

The last step is a weird one but while keeping your head tilted back and massaging with your thumb you will want to open your mouth wide. This will stretch the rest of your mouth out for total relaxation.

The whole point of this is ultimately to help you to achieve a steadier and wider vocal range. It also helps with enunciation and relaxation which allow you to better perform and deliver your lines.

Hopefully this little exercise helps you in your voice acting career. As always you can follow me on Twitter so that you can get updates when I post on this blog. Have a wonderful day and keep striving to achieve your dreams.
