Now you may be thinking “I want to get into voice acting, but I’m just not sure which mic I should use”. Don’t worry I had the same issue when I first started out, and trust me most people do not make it easy to settle on one. That’s why I am going to go over what you would need for your fist microphone and then I’ll show you the one I chose.
First I would recommend something easy to set up. You could get an XLR mic, but in all honesty that would be overkill at this point in time. For your first mic you want something that is more plug and play style. If you are constantly having to adjust settings and tweek things around just to try and get one simple recording done then you have missed the point of a first mic. When starting out you really just need to get onto some projects and get some recordings under your belt.
The second thing you should be looking at is cost. I won’t deny that when I started out I wanted the biggest and baddest microphone, but realistically that is a terrible idea. You need a mic that won’t break the bank and will still give you decent audio. Sure you could go out and get a $2,000 mic or you could get one for around $150 that would do the job just fine for now.
All this being said I have found a microphone that works well for me, and I think it would be perfect for you as well. I would recommend the Blue Yeti microphone. This is a usb mic, so it is super simple to set up. It has good audio quality so you can get a semi professional recording. You don’t have to screw around with audio settings all that much, and It won’t break the bank. You can check it out here.
That is my advice on getting your first mic. As always if you have any deeper questions let me know. You can find me here on my website and also on my Twitter where I will be posting info, updates, and anything I deem interesting.
